During the COVID-19 pandemic, we are not able to provide clinical. You can, however obtain a temporary license (NAR) and be hired as a nursing assistant. You must be at least 18 years old to work as an NAR. Those work hours can count as your clinical if the facility RN or LPN can mark your competency on the skills check list. To take the online class, you must have a desktop, laptop or tablet with a camera and a stable internet connection.

Phlebotomy

Class Overview

Phlebotomy is the process of making a puncture in a vein, usually in the arm, with a cannula for the purpose of drawing blood. A phlebotomist is rewarding, since you help people stay healthy and even help save their lives. Our course is a blend of lectures and labs to get you experienced with various vein puncture techniques. Our two-week/50 hours program will prepare you for placement in a health care career by learning safety practices in the phlebotomy field, exposing you to various patient demographics, and coaching you one on one in a small group setting.

Class Requirements

  • GED or Passing grades on entrance exam (English reading, writing, and comprehension). The exam will be given on the first day of class.
  • Must pass DSHS and Washington state background (form will be provided on the first day of class)
  • Provide Photo Identification and social security number
  • Provide proof of T.B. test (The 2-step skin test or chest x-ray result)
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Registration: $100 (the balance will be due on the first day of class)
  • Course:$800
  • Books: $50

Responsibilities of a phlebotomist include:

  • Collecting timed blood specimens
  • Initial, date, and record blood specimen tubes collected
  • Match all laboratory requisition forms and specimen tubes, properly complete laboratory accession record
  • Following all laboratory safety rules
  • Ordering and processing incoming supplies
  • Maintaining phlebotomy area clean and stocked with supplies
  • Keeping blood drawing trays neat and clean
  • Performing other duties such as data collecting, filing, charging, aiding technologists
  • Reporting possible hazards to Supervisor

Home care Aid Training

Class Overview

Home health aides provide basic personal care to patients. Primarily, they assist with bathing, dressing and other hygiene needs, in addition to preparing meals and helping patients eat. They may perform light housekeeping duties such as laundry, in addition to grocery shopping and providing transportation. Our classes are fully accredited 75-hour program comprised of 63 classroom hours and 12 hours of skills. Individuals who graduate earn a home care aid certificate, mental health certificate, dementia certificate, safety and orientation certificate, nurse delegation/ nurse delegation diabetes. Tuition is $600, Registration is $75, Book cost is $50, and the total cost of the course $725.

Home Care Aid Requirements

  • Passing grades on entrance exam (English reading, writing, and comprehension). The exam is given on the first day of class
  • Have no back problems that prevent safe lifting of at least 50 pounds
  • Total Cost: $725

  • At the end of the course, students are given an exam in which they are expected to score 80% or higher to pass the class.

HCA Application & Licensing

The Department of Health approves and renews Home Care Aide licenses.

If you are hired as a new Home Care Aide, you must apply for your HCA license within two weeks of your hire date. You must submit the following items to the Department of Health, Home Care Aide Credentialing at P.O. Box 1099, Olympia, WA 98507

  • Application fee $85 (check or money order made out to Department of Health)
  • Application packet

Complete a DSHS approved 75-hour training program. Then send a copy (do NOT send your originals, they will not be returned) of the following documents to Home Care Aide Credentialing at P.O. Box 47877, Olympia, WA 98504

  • Orientation & Safety training certificate
  • Core Basic training certificate
  • Mental Health certificate
  • Dementia certificate
  • 35-hours training certificate
  • Testing fee $137 (check or money order made out to Department of Health)

After receiving your fee and certificates, you will receive a testing date.

This training is designed to help you take ownership of your own safety and health and to take action to protect the safety and health of clients in your care. Your role in safety as a LTC worker is to help:

  • Stop the spread of infection and disease
  • Prepare for and handle emergencies

Nursing Delegation Core Basics : Self Study Course

This course is designed to help prepare you to accept nurse-delegated tasks. Your training happens in two steps. (self-study course)

Nurse Delegation: Special Focus: Diabetes

This course is instructor led course designed for nursing assistants who:

  • Have successfully completed the Nurse Delegation for Nursing Assistants Self-Study Training Course
  • Need this additional, required training to administer insulin injections under nurse delegation

Certified nursing assistants (CNAs), also known as nurses' aides, orderlies, patient care technicians, and home health aides, work under the supervision of a nurse to provide assistance to patients with daily living tasks.
